In a resolute stand against the removal of fuel subsidies in Nigeria, the Katsina branch of the National Labor Congress (NLC) orchestrated a peaceful protest under the leadership of State Union Chairman Comrade Hussaini Hamisu Yanduna. The demonstration, held in Katsina City on the morning of Tuesday, February 27, 2024, addressed the soaring cost of living in Nigeria.
Comrade Hussaini Hamisu Yanduna, in a passionate address, voiced profound concerns about the declining value of the Naira, attributing it to the surge in prices of essential commodities nationwide. He expressed disappointment in the government's decision, led by Bola Tinubu, to eliminate fuel subsidies and increase school fees, plunging the community into a dire situation and preventing many impoverished children from attending school due to the additional financial burden.
The Chairman of the Katsina Labor Congress, Comrade Hussaini Hamisu Yanduna, spearheaded the peaceful protest, urging the Federal Government to promptly address the challenges faced by citizens due to soaring food prices and security issues, particularly in Katsina State.
Drawing attention to the deteriorating state of hospitals and the escalating security crisis, he lamented that farmers fleeing their fields had resulted in a scarcity of food in the markets.
In his concluding remarks, Comrade Hussaini Hamisu Yanduna called upon workers and other labor unions to unite in opposition whenever the government enacts policies detrimental to citizens. He emphasized the need for collective action to seek resolutions and urged the Federal Government to intervene urgently in the prevailing challenges affecting the populace.
